Batch rendering is the logical approach when any of the following are part of your process:
You process several products which shoud be kept seprate
You process some of the products have higher market value if kept separate
Your Process day would be less than 16 hours per day
Your market wants the highest quality Meal
Your market want the highest quality Fat/Tallow
You are starting Rendering for the first time
You have a limited budget
Labor force available has limited skills
Alloy has Batch customers running 13 or more Batch Cookers. The amount of product you process in a day is not a strong indicator of the need a continuous process.
Optimized Process
Because batch processing is an in cook out process, it is far easier to measure the finish end-point temperature of the product. By using JX-type contact thermocouples the actual product temperature is easy to track and measure, making it easy to measure the actual product temperature. By using the strong relationship between temperature and moisture content of the product being cooked user can determine the precise correct temperature/moisture of the product and to rely on this relationship discharge the product at the correct end-point consistently.
In contrast, Continuous Processing is a relatively constant feed and discharge while cooking process. Today's continuous processes are NOT first in first out processes, some of the product "short-circuits" reaching the discharge without being thoroughly cooked. As a result, Continuous Cooking processes have to overcook the product to assure the "short-circuited product is sufficiently cooked. The result is a reduction in the quality of both the Meal and the Fat.
